Scholarships 2012

Gabrielle Sciolino, Chairman of the Scholarship Committee, announced our scholarship award winners.

MEGAN GORENFLO, a senior from Lancaster High School, was unable to accept her scholarship in person as she had a school commitment.  However, she will  be joining us at our June meeting.  Megan will be attending either Ohio State University or Gannon University and studying International Business and Accounting/Finance.  Megan plans to minor in German and Economics.

Megan is the current president of the Lancaster High School Z-Club and has participated in many community service activities and projects. In addition to maintaining high grades in school, Megan is an Academy of Finance Advisory Board Intern, works at Ripa’s Restaurant and babysits.  She also played Lacrosse for two years and Field Hockey for four.

Megan’s goals have always been to give back to the community.  As Megan says, she “has learned first-hand what it takes to make a difference.”  She has already assisted with many Zonta fundraising events, helped kids with homework and computer activities at the Depew Boys and Girls Club, delivered meals  for Depew/Lancaster Meals on Wheels for four years, prepared free taxes for low-income families and students through VITA Taxes, worked at Relay for Life for four years and at St. Mary’s of Lancaster Church Bake Sale as a leader for three years.


EMILY VIRGINIA AMBROSE, a senior from West Seneca West Senior High School, plans “to become a doctor and help save someone’s life, and to help create a world of smiles and relief”.  Her passion is “to serve, guide, help my female race and devote my life to others.”



Emily has volunteered at the West Seneca/Southtown’s Youth Engage in Service (YES) for five years and has been an Advisory Board member for four.  In addition, Emily has volunteered with Hospice Buffalo for the past four years.  Emily has also volunteered as a religious education teacher for the past four years.  She also volunteers at Relay for Life in West Seneca.  Emily is employed as a cashier at Market In The Square and as a Kindergarten Counselor at the Park School Of Buffalo Summer Day Camp.

Emily will be attending Fordham University and studying pre-medicine courses as well as courses in epilepsy and neurology.  She plans to minor in Bioethics.  Emily ranks fifth in her class and has received many, many honors.  She has been Student Of the Month for the past three years, played Varsity Girls Tennis and Track, was a West Seneca West Senior 2012 Student of Excellence, was involved in many school activities and clubs, and was in the school musical for four years.
