Friday, March 8, our club celebrated their 50th anniversary at the Protocol Restaurant.  The club was chartered on January 20, 1969 with an initial membership of 23 professional women from the Cheektowaga-Depew-Lancaster area.   Mildred Whittaker, a current member, was one of the original charter members.

District 4 Governor, Bonnie Clesse, attended and presented the members with a certificate of congratulations.  While District 4 Lieutenant Governor/D4 Membership Chair, Janis Durmis was not able to attend, she sent greetings on reaching this milestone occasion with a letter and certificate.

The club originally met on the 2nd and 3rd Thursdays of the month; one meeting for business and one meeting for a program or speaker.  Today the club members meet on the 3rd Thursday of the month.

One of the first goals of the newly chartered club was to establish a Z Club which formed at Lancaster High School in 1972 and is still supported by the club today.

Memorabilia–photos, plaques, etc.–from prior years were also on display.  Additionally a slideshow presentation highlighting various club activities through the decades played throughout the evening

Congratulations to the women of the Zonta Club of Cheektowaga-Lancaster who believe  the mission of Zonta is to make the world a better place by em-powering women, as well as finding satisfaction in working together toward gender equity, equal rights, and living a life free of violence for all women and girls.
